Equinox24
Claire Grubb headed to the picturesque Belvoir Castle Estate in Leicestershire to take part in the Equinox24 race.
The fun started on Friday night with the Beer Fun Run – competitors drink one drink from the bar on the start line (beer/cider/wine/soft drink etc) then run 1 lap around the camping field of approx 1km. Claire did this in fancy dress and was third female.
This set her up nicely for the main event on Saturday, the Equinox24 which is a 24 hour run around a 10k loop against the clock starting at midday Saturday and finishing midday Sunday. The event can be completed in teams or as singles.
The course has varied terrain, running past lakes, through wooded areas, up and down hills and round open fields. Whether running through the night with a head torch or whilst the sun rises, there was always a change of scenery to admire.
The final section of the loop is around the camping field where there was the support of fellow runners and spectators cheering the competitors on.
At 12noon on Sunday all competitors are able to finish the lap they are on. Claire did amazingly well completing 19 laps in 25:02:07 finishing as second female overall.
Copenhagen Half Marathon
On Sunday, travelling to Copenhagen Ben Wood took part in the sold out half marathon with around 35,000 participants.
He started strong but dropped his pace during the middle section after unfortunately rolling his ankle. He finished in 2:31:39 and is already looking forward to running in Valencia next month.
Warhorse 10k
Also on Sunday an incredible 34 ORC’s headed to Iddesleigh for the ever-popular Warhorse 10k with proceeds going to Devon Air Ambulance and Farms for City Children.
The scenic mixed-terrain route of approximately 10.1k traverses local roads, tracks, and goes through around 800 metres of private land normally closed to the public, offering fabulous views toward Dartmoor.
With this race you can never predict the weather, usually it’s either very wet or vert hot – today it was hot! The runners did well, with Derek Matravers the first ORC home in 44:46. He was followed by:
Charlie Temperley in 46:36 closely followed by Duggie Little in 46:55 and Deane Andrew in 47:10. Then came Eddie Bragg in 48:58, Neil Agnew in 50:40 (second in his age category).
The first ORC lady was next, Izzi Davison in 52:34 (third in her age category) with Sarah Rawlings close on her heels in 52:38.
Keeley Phillips was next in 53:11, Paul Evison 55:33 (first in his age category), Peter Rossetter 55:50, Matt Grint 56:20, Mike Westland 57:03 (third in his age category), Andrew Thorne 57:09, Claire Thompson 57:49, Lou Duffield 57:53, Lorna Critchlow 58:04, Ged Fitzgibbon 58:19 (second in his age category), Garry Wallace 58:46, Mary Roberts 59:06, Pearl Barnes 1:00:15, Chris Fulford-Brown 1:02:32, Lu Walsh 1:02:52, Maria Ward 1:03:43, Lucy Gooding 1:03:45, Laura Venton 1:04:18, Lois Rowlands 1:06:26, Louise Chancellor 1:07:10, Carol Latham 1:07:19, Natalie Donnelly 1:10:29, Davina Dimmock-Wright 1:10:46, Kayleigh Bunch 1:18:21 and running together Jo Teixeira and Olivia Wheeleker in 1:24:11 and 1:24:12.
