Plymouth Half, Brighton Marathon, Bodmin 5 Tors & Boston Marathon

Six ORCs took part in the Plymouth Half Marathon on Sunday in glorious sunshine. This is one of the biggest half marathons in the south west with over 5,000 runners taking part and always sees a presence from our club.

Hats off to Mark Hawkins, this race was the whole reason he took up running again after a break of 30 years. His niece, who had never run a half marathon before, wanted to run in memory of Mark’s father who died of cancer so Mark got back into running to accompany her, and together they raised £2,460 for Cancer Research. A huge well done to you both and best of luck to Mark in his marathon endeavour. First ORC home was Matt Bailey and first lady ORC was Beverley Kidson finishing in a great time to give her a diamond award.

Further away Karen Limon and Deborah Cunningham took part and completed the Brighton Marathon, again in beautiful sunshine. This has become one of the most popular marathons in the country in the seven years its been going, with a course that winds through the city streets and finishes along the seafront. Congratulations to both.

Back in the south west, Mags Jarvis returned to compete at the Bodmin 5 Tors Race, a challenging 8 mile fell race over rugged terrain. Last year she won her age group and this year carried on the winning streak to make it a second year in a row!

Lastly, Anne Binns took to the states to take part in one of the six World Marathon Majors, the Boston Marathon. Despite hindered with headaches she successfully completed the distance. This marathon is a goal for many people to run and will no doubt stay in memory for a long time indeed. Well done Anne!

Well done to everyone who ran this weekend. There are plenty more races coming up if you wish to take part – keep an eye out for a summary post soon.
