ORC solidarity towards the elimination of violence against women and girls

70 Okehampton Running Club runners went out for their usual club run, wearing a white ribbon, taking part in an international campaign to end violence against women and girls.

25th November is International day for the elimination of violence against women and girls, also known as white ribbon day. The white ribbon campaign is an international and UK campaign supported by many sports clubs and celebrities. It is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

Mostly men but also women wear a white ribbon to show that they will not condone violence against women and girls or stand by when they know it is happening.  45% of UK women have experienced some form of domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking. Seven women a month are killed by a current or former partner in England and Wales.

The club felt that by wearing white ribbons on their run on the eve of the 25th November, they are showing their solidarity with this great cause and that violence and abuse has got to end.
